Patent and Intellectual Property Investing: Strategy or Fad?

One of the hottest strategies for investment in emerging growth companies over the past two years has been in the area of patent and intellectual property. Often derided as “patent trolls”, these companies seek to secure rights to technologies, software, and other patented processes and then enforce them in an effort to acquire lucrative licensing agreements or legal settlements from infringing companies. Our panel will discuss the near term and long term viability of this strategy, and analyze the successes and failures of recent cases in light of evolving IP case law.
