Ray Aghaian is a partner in Kilpatrick Townsend’s Los Angeles office. Ray Aghaian has extensive experience reviewing, preparing and assessing issues related to cybersecurity. He advises clients in responding to cyber-attacks and data breaches, complying with mandatory disclosure and notification requirements after a data breach, assessing and securing computer networks before any breach, mitigating the risk of liability, and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards, including DFARS, 252.204-7012 and other industry standards. His cybersecurity experience has been recognized by leading news outlets such as The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. He was selected as one of the “Most Influential Lawyers in White Collar and Cyber Crimes Law” in 2015 by the Los Angeles Business Journal. Prior to joining Kilpatrick Townsend, Ray served as the co-chair of the cybersecurity practice of an international law firm, and was a former federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice. As the Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Cyber and Intellectual Property Crimes Section, he helped lead efforts in investigating and prosecuting an array of white collar crimes including cyber intrusions, copyright and trademark infringement, healthcare fraud, theft of trade secrets, bribery, mail, wire and bank fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, and mortgage fraud. Ray obtained his J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. from University of California, Santa Barbara.
