Swiss Consul General to Sponsor Growth Capital Expo Reception and Keynote on Behalf of Orphan Drug Foundation

The Consul General of Switzerland will sponsor the Welcome Reception for attendees of the IPO Boot Camp and Growth Capital Expo on April 29, 2014, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm in the Palace I ballroom at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas.

The Consul General is hosting the reception on behalf of Orphanbiotec, a Zurich-based research foundation dedicated to funding research and development, and partnering with pharmaceutical companies to ensure the provision of drugs for a variety of different rare diseases.

Julius Anderegg, the Consul General of Switzerland, will attend the reception and introduce Dr. Frank Grossman, Orphanbiotec’s chief executive officer, who will discuss the many diseases that disproportionately affect children, yet research into their treatment attracts little investment from traditional capital sources due to their perceived lack of profitability.

Dr. Grossman will be the keynote speaker on the following opening day main session of the Growth Capital Expo 2014, speaking about the foundation’s mission and achievements in advancing treatments for rare diseases, and its partnerships with private-sector drug development companies to obtain financing for research, development and distribution of treatment compounds for rare diseases.

“Today’s pharmaceutical research for new medicinal active ingredients is very expensive and tedious,” explains Dr. Grossman. “Despite recent developments, current and urgent questions remain open in healthcare. We are convinced that in addition to traditional finance, there will be additional intensive research and alternative approaches, to be able to respond to the future challenges of healthcare. Patients with a rare disease have the right to treatment.”

The reception will kick-off the Expo ahead of the event’s general session opening on April 30, and is open to all attendees. The reception will include hors d’oeuvres and a hosted bar.

“We are honored to have Mssr. Anderegg and Dr. Grossman join us to discuss their important work in the area of orphan disease research,” said Shelly Kraft, Founder of SNN, Inc. and co-host of the Growth Capital Expo. “Dr. Grossman’s devotion to raising awareness for rare orphan diseases is both inspirational and quite personal. There is an opportunity for all of us in the emerging growth capital market to play a part in developing these desperately needed treatments and ensuring their availability to the patients who need them.”
